Katy Bentz is the voice actress for Steph Gingrich in Life is Strange: Before the Storm and in Life is Strange: True Colors.[1]
Career[]
According to her LinkedIn profile, Katy lived in Los Angeles, California, pursuing her acting career. She is also described as a freelance photographer and videographer for Katy Bentz Media, but as of 2019, the company website does not appear to be active.
Katy attended Western Washington University where she majored in Theatre Performance with an Acting Concentration and minored in Public Relations. She also worked as a photography intern under Jenny Graham at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon.
Katy has also worked in print and copy shops and holds knowledge of a variety of different copiers and duties that working in a print shop entails.
Her resume lists experience in theatre, television, film, commercials, and voice over.
Life is Strange[]
Life is Strange: Before the Storm was her first role in a video game. She worked with Phil the voice director more than the game director. She had auditioned for an unknown character and eventually got Samantha. The voice director she fit more for Steph Gingrich, so she was moved to that one. When she recorded the lines for Steph for 3 sessions of 4 hours each, for a total of 12 hours; her third recording session had corresponded with the 3rd episode of the game.
Ultimately, She had no knowledge of Steph's appearance until she played the game upon release. She has described her portrayal made her aware of the LGBT community, and helped fans come out to their family.
Katy found out she was returning to True Colors when she woke up and checked her email, and saw one from the head of Deck Nine. She immediately replied yes. For True Colors, she was able to provider not ony her voice, but face, and motion capture, a job that lasted roughly 2 years. During her acting, she had a scene partner to help during the scenes.
In February 2019, she flew into Denver, Colorado to start work with Deck Nine. it started with a rehearsal and a few initial lines.
She flew from Los Angeles to Denver multiple times in August, October, November, and December 2019, working on the voice and motion capture. She performed the kiss in December 2019 that was seen between Alex and Steph in game.
During the pandemic in 2020, the studio sent voice recording equpiment so that she can perform her duties at home. In July, 2020, she drove all the way to Denver as she did not want to go on a flight. At the time she was recording her motion capture scenes for Wavelengths.
In December 2020 to January 2021, she re-recorded 18 lines for Wavelengths.
Because she had a non-disclosure agreet with Deck Nine, she was prohibited from disclosing the project publicly. She had lied on her streams to her viewers when they relentlessly asked her about Steph. Some of the lies she said were about visiting family in Kansas, going on a trip to Northern California, and doing “promotional work” for a voice over.
She had said he liked Chris Eriksen from The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit and Life is Strange 2. Her favourite scene from the series is the Tempest scene.
Personal Life[]
Katy lists her special skills as: Improvisation, Beat Box, Viewpoints, Basic Drums, Basic Guitar, Devising, Photography, Videography, Karaoke/Trivia Host, Print Model.
She has engaged in volunteer work for an animal welfare society where she walked dogs and socialized with cats. She has also helped Japanese exchange students to learn English and learn more about American culture during her time volunteering in classrooms.
